Questions / Answers / Additional Information
What is the number one issue in Murray and how can you help fix it?
Housing is the number one issue. I want to make sure that when developers come in that they have the same vision that Murray residents have. The developer should meet with the residents of that area so they will be listened to and have a clear understanding how the residents feel.
How do you feel about high density housing?
It has its place, but not in areas where there are single family home subdivisions. We have to use common sense as to where these buildings are built.
People have seen increased crime in Murray. Compared to neighboring cities our crime rate is significantly higher. As mayor how can you help solve this issue?
Meet with our Police Chief and supervisors to find out if they have any additional needs. I don’t want to hinder the police department and I want them to know they have my full support in whatever they need to make our neighborhoods safe.
In the past there has been talk about a plastic bag ban in Murray. Would you support a plastic bag ban in the future?
I recycle my plastic bags by bringing them back to Smiths’s and placing them in their recycling bin. They are useful for items like meats that may leak in cloth or paper bags. I would like to present it to the voters. I know Jordan Landfill has a big issue with them. They had to build a very tall fence so they could stop them from blowing over in another business. Maybe we could put a small fee on them.
What is your favorite thing about Murray?
What is your favorite Murray restaurant?
Winger’s. They have amazing wings! You have to try them.
Other Issues
We should be working with the Historical Society to make sure our history is preserved, not fighting each other. Murray City does not own many of the historical buildings. Maybe we could do a fundraiser sponsored by the Historical Society and Murray City to raise the money for those buildings that the Historical Society would like to be preserved rather than increasing taxes to purchase the buildings.
I would like to bring back the power board and water board. We need trained personnel over-seeing these utilities instead of the city council members. These are two of our most independent resources and I want them in qualified hands.
Candidate Profile
My name is Pam Cotter. My husband and I have raised two daughters and lived in Murray since 1985.
I have worked for Murray School District for 30 years.
I was selected by the Murray City Council to be the interim District 2 City Council Member four years ago. That experience opened my eyes to the needs and concerns of Murray residents.
Murray is a unique community, and we need to keep our values as we move forward with well-planned, common-sense growth.
